In this photo, you will see Emmanuel. He is a 15 year old boy who is in our sponsorship program in Rwanda.
I just returned from Rwanda where I snapped the photo you see here. Emmanuel is smiling & speechless (literally) because we had just gone on a shopping spree. He is holding the 1st set of new clothes that he's ever had in his life. Last year, we bought his 1st pair of new shoes . . . now he has new clothes. He picked them himself and wanted the jeans! He never dreamt that he could own new clothes. His self-worth soared that day and I have no doubt that this simple shopping spree was a life-changing event for him. This shopping spree inspired the Christmas Project that I introduced via email last week! We want to give clothes & shoes to children. Most children either wear their school uniform every day/all day - or they put on tattered clothes. Those who are not yet attending school can only wear worn-out, tattered clothes. Providing a child access to education is important - but we also want them to dream big dreams! This is difficult when they are surrounded with extreme poverty every day and relegated to wearing shoes they've outgrown and clothes that are tattered. For the first time in Emmanuel's life, he was feeling like a "regular boy" - not the "poor kid from the village". <<First Name>>, can I count on you to help today with this Christmas project? We can buy a pair of new shoes for $10. We can buy a pair of jeans for $13. We can buy a shirt for $12. This means just $35 can buy a full outfit for a child! Also, if you sponsor a child - we will make sure that your donation goes directly to benefit your sponsored child. I hope to hear from you soon so we can send the needed funds to Rwanda and begin shopping! Thank you for your generosity this Christmas!
